Hurricane Ike insurance hit becoming clearer

The tally of Hurricane Ike's financial toll, is providing an insight into the severe impact of the storm.
In Galveston, Texas, where the hurricane caused a severe storm surge, the Economic Development Bureau has described the devastation wreaked by Ike, including the loss of boats to shrimpers and oystermen, tourist areas on the coast being flattened and restaurants which have remained closed since the big storm.
The storm carried hurricane-force winds as far north as Kentucky and driving rain into New England.
Risk Management Assessment, which quantifies risks for insurance companies, has estimated Ike's impact at the lower end of the $6 billion to $16 billion in insured losses.
More than 11,000 workers have filed unemployment insurance claims in the wake of Ike.
More than 500,000 people are still without power thoughout the affected states.
Louisiana's $2.6 billion seafood industry has already asked the state's congressional delegation for federal relief.
Cattle ranchers have lost entire herds in some Texas counties.
