MisOcc records 1st COVID-19 positive case

OZAMIZ CITY, Misamis Occidental, March 29 (PIA)- A 45-year old seaman, resident of Jimenez town in Misamis Occidental with travel history from Thailand and Manila is the first confirmed case for coronavirus disease (COVID-19 in the province.

Provincial Governor Philip Tan in a statement confirmed that a seaman who was confined at the Mayor Hilarion A. Ramiro Sr. Medical Center (MHARS-MC) in Ozamiz City tested positive on March 29, 2020 for COVID-19.

He added that the patient who is a native of Brgy. Sta. Cruz in Jimenez town arrived in Manila from abroad last March 4 then arrived in the province via Philippine Airlines last March 14. He was admitted to MHARSMC on March 24 with fever, cough, sore throat and headache.

Gov. Tan also said the patient is stable and has mild pneumonia.

With this latest development, Governor Tan called on Jimenez Mayor Rosario Balais, the municipal health and police officials to place Brgy. Sta. Cruz under enhanced community quarantine, allowing nobody to enter or leave.

They are now contact tracing the persons whom the patients was with and they also heightened the disease surveillance through the Barangay Health Emergency Response Team (BHERT) in the local government units.

The patient was considered a PUM on March 16, two days after he arrived in the province.

Tan urged Misamisnons to stay at home especially those in Barangay Sta Cruz, Jimenez.
