21 May 2020, 20:05 GMT+10

VIENTIANE, May 21 (Xinhua) -- Domestic travel is now permitted in Laos for all people throughout the country, but prevention measures and guidelines must be strictly followed, Director General of Department of Transport under Lao Ministry of Public Works and Transport Bounta Onnavong told a press conference on Thursday.

The measures include arranging suitable seating for passengers with social distancing of at least one meter and everyone must have their body temperature checked.

Businesses managers must provide soap, hand gel, and hand washbasins to customers. Grounds and facilities must be cleaned and sprayed to reduce the risk of infections.

The National Taskforce Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control on Thursday announced it has been monitoring 2,868 people at 82 accommodation centers across the country.

On Wednesday, the number of truck drivers bringing freight into Laos from Thailand was 1,380, from Vietnam 785 and 27 people from China. The temperature of each person entering Laos was checked and no one showed signs of fever.

Laos reported no new case of COVID-19 for 39 consecutive days, with the total number of confirmed cases remaining at 19, according to the report.

As of Thursday, Laos has tested 4,812 suspected cases with 19 cases tested positive, and 14 patients have recovered.

Another five infected cases are treated in designated hospital -- Mittaphab Hospital (Hospital 150) in Lao capital Vientiane.
