SAN FRANCISCO, California: An organization representing bars and restaurants in San Francisco has announced that its members have agreed to offer in-house drinking and dining only to customers who show proof of having received the Covid vaccination.

"Any customer who wishes to remain inside our establishments show proof of vaccination or a 72-hour negative COVID-19 test," The San Francisco Bar Owner Alliance said in a statement.

"Guests without these verifications are welcome to sit outside in parklets or other spaces we offer," it said.

The statement was issued after new Covid cases increased to between 500 to 1,000 daily, according to California officials.

The alliance said the decision to only allow vaccinated customers into their bars and restaurants was made to protect workers, customers and families. Further, they said they hope the decision will convince people to become vaccinated.

"We understand that the only way our society (and our businesses) can ever return to true normalcy is through high rates of vaccinations among our residents -- not just in San Francisco, but across the United States of America," it said.

"This is a responsible decision by the SF Bar Owner Alliance that will help protect employees and customers," San Francisco Mayor London Breed said in a tweet. "We need everyone to get vaccinated, especially as the Delta variant continues to spread. It's how we can keep our city and our residents safe."
