BANGKOK, Sept. 22 (Xinhua) -- Thailand's COVID-19 cases rose by 11,252 and 141 more fatalities were recorded in the previous 24 hours, the Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) reported on Wednesday.
Of the new infections, nearly 4,000 cases were detected in Bangkok and its neighboring provinces. These areas also accounted for 73 of the new deaths reported. Another 13,695 patients recovered from the disease nationwide.
Since the pandemic started early last year, the total number of COVID-19 cases in Thailand stands at 1,511,357 with 1,366,533 recoveries and 15,753 deaths.
As of Tuesday, Thailand has administered over 46 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines, with roughly 22 percent of its total population fully vaccinated. So far, around 622,000 of Thais have received a booster dose.
The government recently issued stimulus packages to boost domestic tourism starting next month, hoping to lift sentiment and bolster travel activities which have been frozen by several months of lockdown.
