BANGKOK, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- Thailand on Friday reported 12,697 new COVID-19 cases and 132 additional fatalities, according to the country's Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA).
Of the new cases, 3,721 were found in Bangkok and its five neighboring provinces, the CCSA said.
Since the beginning of the pandemic early last year, there have been more than 1.53 million COVID-19 infections in the country, while the cumulative fatalities currently stand at 16,016, or around 1 percent of the total infections.
The CCSA also indicated that 13,540 COVID-19 patients were discharged from hospitals on Thursday after making a full recovery, 843 more than the number of new infections.
Nearly 47.3 million COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in Thailand between Feb. 28 to Sept. 23, with roughly 23.1 percent of its population fully vaccinated.
The Thai government aims to vaccinate around 70 percent of its nearly 70 million population by the end of the year.
