VIENTIANE -- The Lao government will allow investments by domestic and foreign entrepreneurs in the development of electric vehicles (EVs) in Laos to benefit motorists and reduce the import of fuel-inefficient cars against the backdrop of a global spike in energy prices.

The number of EV users within the country has been increasing since Laos was hit by the high prices of oil and a shortage of fuel, Lao Minister of Energy and Mines, Daovong Phonekeo, said at The Third Ordinary Session of the National Assembly of Laos on Thursday. (Laos-EVs-Investment)

COLOMBO -- Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe is to present a roadmap on overcoming the current economic crisis to the parliament soon, local media reported on Friday.

SYDNEY -- Authorities in the Australian state of New South Wales (NSW) have been granted emergency powers as a "precautionary measure" to ensure the stability of the state's exhausted energy grid.

NSW Treasurer and Energy Minister Matt Kean was granted the powers during an emergency meeting on Thursday night. They will allow him to direct the state's private coal companies to operate and add supply to the electricity grid. (Australia-Energy Crisis-Emergency Powers)
