LANZHOU, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- An Azur Air flight carrying 246 people made an emergency landing in Lanzhou, capital of northwest China's Gansu Province, after issuing a distress signal on Friday, the city airport said.

The ZF2998 flight from Phuket in Thailand to Barnaul of Russia landed safely at 4:51 p.m. at Lanzhou Zhongchuan International Airport. All 239 passengers and seven crew members on board were unharmed.

The emergency was caused by a right-side engine malfunction on the aircraft, a Boeing 757-200, according to the airport, which is organizing coordination efforts.
