Thailand's Election Commission certifies February general election results

BANGKOK, March 4 (Xinhua) -- Thailand's Election Commission on Wednesday officially certified 499 parliamentary seats won in the February general election, paving the way for a new House of Representatives to convene.

The commission resolved to endorse all 100 party-list Members of Parliament (MPs) and three additional constituency MPs, said Phasakorn Siriphakayaporn, deputy secretary-general of the Election Commission.

The announcement followed the certification of 396 constituency seats in the 500-member lower house of parliament last week.

The certified results indicate that Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul's Bhumjaithai Party won the most parliamentary seats, followed by the People's Party and the Pheu Thai Party.

A total of 37.8 million individuals cast their ballots in the Feb. 8 elections, accounting for about 71 percent of eligible Thai voters, Phasakorn told a news conference.
