Five Chinese boxers secure semifinal spots at IBA Women's World Championships

NIS, Serbia, March 13 (Xinhua) -- Chinese boxers advanced to the semifinals in five weight divisions on Thursday at the ongoing IBA Women's World Boxing Championships in Nis, Serbia.

China's reigning featherweight champion, Cai Yan, secured her third victory in the tournament, defeating Kazakhstan's Karina Ibragimova in a closely contested 4-1 decision. In the middleweight category, Wang Lina dominated Nigeria's Patricia Mbata with a convincing 5-0 win.

Hu Meiyi edged out Thailand's Chuthamat Raksat in the light flyweight division, securing a 4-3 victory. Meanwhile, Wang Xiaomeng triumphed over Kenya's Elizabeth Adhiambo Andiego in the light heavyweight category via referee stoppage contest (RSC). In the heavyweight division, Zhan Yilian defeated Russia's Mariia Kuchmanova in a 5-2 decision.

A total of 12 Chinese boxers entered this year's Women's World Boxing Championships, which is being held from March 8 to 16, featuring 12 weight categories.
